The Online Trust Alliance (OTA), the non-profit with the mission to enhance online trust, today announced the expansion of its board of directors, welcoming leaders in digital marketing, security, privacy and compliance. The newly appointed members include David Fowler, Chief Privacy & Digital Compliance Officer at Act-On; Neill Feather, President of SiteLock; and Danny McPherson, Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer at Verisign.
“OTA’s newest board members bring unique experiences which will prove invaluable to our mission of enhancing consumer trust and promoting marketplace innovation,” said Craig Spiezle, Executive Director and President of OTA. “David will lend us his keen perspectives on compliance, privacy and interactive marketing; Neill knows website security inside and out – from small business to enterprise; and Danny is a networking guru with vast knowledge in Internet governance, security engineering and the standards community.”
“SiteLock’s mission is well-aligned with that of the OTA, so it is an honor to join OTA’s board and forward both our organizations’ goals,” noted Feather. “SiteLock and OTA are strong proponents of educating businesses and, collectively, we hope to share best practices and thwart the rising number of dangerous and malicious cybercriminal efforts.”
“At Act-On we believe in putting the customer first, moving beyond compliance to drive the development and adoption of best practices,” said Fowler. Our commitment to take a leadership role with OTA reinforces the need to work towards securing the safety of the Internet and privacy of one’s personal data, while encouraging our peers to do the same. Making inroads today will serve the needs of all digital citizens tomorrow.”
“Improving security on the Internet is imperative for business innovation as the Domain Name System increasingly becomes an attack vector for adversaries,” said McPherson. “I’m excited to join the OTA board and work to develop best practices for online security and privacy while ensuring stakeholders are informed of emerging trends in the constantly changing threat landscape.”
This influx of expertise further enriches OTA’s already extensive knowledge base that OTA members have access to surrounding responsible data stewardship and network security best practices. The new board members will also provide guidance as OTA consults with the public and private sectors developing best practices, shaping self-regulation and promoting sound public policy.
OTA also announced the approval of several new corporate members, including privacy and cybersecurity solution providers Disconnect, Malwarebytes and ThreatWave. Combined with the new board members they bring to the table expertise in multi-channel marketing and preference-based marketing, all of which must be built on a foundation of online trust, privacy and security.
Since its founding in 2005, OTA has forged a multi-stakeholder effort to combat online fraud, assembling a team of industry leaders that continues to grow with these latest additions. OTA has members from a large variety of industries including social media (Twitter), content publishing (WebMD) and interactive marketing (Publishers Clearing House). Combined, OTA members’ input provides powerful insights leading to the development of best practices, online innovation and effective legislation.
