Stanley Consultants has opened a Global Services office in Washington, D.C. The focus of the office is to expand geographically the company’s strong presence in the global market. Stanley Consultants provides consulting engineering services in transportation, energy, water and environment through over 30 offices located throughout the U.S, Caribbean, Asia, Africa, Middle East, and the Pacific.

“Stanley Consultants has operated globally since the ‘50s, but many of our key Federal and international clients are based in or have strategic offices in the D.C. area,” said Gayle Roberts, P.E., president and CEO of Stanley Consultants. “Having a local D.C. presence not only makes it easier to serve our clients, it also provides direct access to our full spectrum of services and expertise.”

The office, located at 1530 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 710 in Arlington, Virginia, is managed by Senior Vice President Mario Rizos. He is Business Leader for the firm’s Global Services Business Unit and directs its activities including strategy development, business development, operational performance, client relationships, quality, and financial performance. He has 25 years of experience leading and managing multimillion dollar international private development and governmental organizations.

“Opening a Stanley Consultants office in Washington D.C. represents a wonderful opportunity to further develop business relations as well as create new ones in the international community,” said Rizos.

Carol Bell, Director, International Project Development, is also working in the D.C. office. Bell brings extensive knowledge of Federal government agencies and multi-national development banks. She has over 17 years of experience working with Federal government agencies and is the company’s liaison on legislative issues that impact the engineering industry.

Established in 1913, Stanley Consultants entered the global services area at a time when few U.S. engineering firms were working outside of the United States. In 1956, the firm was contracted to design a power plant in Bomi Hills, Liberia. Shortly after, it was selected to design the $25 million Mt. Coffee hydroelectric plant. This set the pattern for Stanley Consultants’ emergence as a global consulting engineering firm with a footprint that extends to 110 countries around the world.

Stanley Consultants went on to bring potable water to Jordan and South Africa; electricity to Peru, the Philippines, Vietnam; and modern port facilities to Malaysia. The first Gulf War ushered in an era when much of company’s overseas work was for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Middle East District (MED). The firm was contracted to rebuilding airfields in Kuwait in the ’90s, and to help reconstruct war-ravaged Iraq and Afghanistan in the early 2000s. Thirty years later, MED remains a valued client.

In 1995, Stanley Consultants began designing the North Coast Highway in Jamaica, which locals still refer to as a ‘national treasure.’ More recent projects include the world’s largest district cooling plant in Qatar; the largest desalination plant in Africa; the King Saud Air Base Master Plan in Saudi Arabia; the Nhat Tan Bridge Connecting Road in Vietnam, and the Doha North Sewage Treatment Works in Qatar.
