New solutions for employers with high-deductible plans

Employers want new ideas so they can continue to offer flexible and affordable benefits.

Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. announced today its group division now markets a supplemental medical (Gap Medical) insurance product from Beazley U.S. Accident & Health.

The Gap Medical plan reimburses eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses, including deductibles, co-pays and coinsurance. It requires an underlying major medical plan and works most effectively for groups with high-deductible plans.

Karen M. Gustin, LLIF, Ameritas senior vice president - group distribution, said the agreement will allow Ameritas to meet new employer and employee needs in a changing benefits world.

“Ameritas group built its reputation on dental and vision coverage – especially dental, which has been our focus since the late 1950s,” she said. “Still, our driving principle has always been products that solve changing demands.

“Many of today’s employers must migrate to high-deductible health plans to avoid exceeding their budgets,” Gustin explained. “They want new ideas so they can continue to offer flexible and affordable benefits, as well as access to the dental and vision protection their employees value. After getting to know Beazley and its practical, common-sense approach to plan design, we know their product will help us meet those needs.”

Paul Gulstrand, head of the Beazley U.S. Accident & Health team, agreed.

“The two organizations have complementary product and distribution strategies,” he said. “Offering Gap Medical helps bring new solutions to brokers as their customers move to high-deductible plans.”

The plans are administered by HealthPlan Services, headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
