In honor of the 70th anniversary of D-Day Victory in Europe, the National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center will display World War II era aircraft in Fairfax, VA, just outside of Washington, DC. The aircraft will be on public view from May 9 - May 11. As this celebration happens to fall over Mother’s Day weekend, the Westin Reston Heights will extend its traditional Mother’s Day brunch to cover the days of this exhibition. The hotel is one of over 100 hotels managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts.

“We felt it was important to give military veterans and their families a way to extend the celebration of this key day in our country’s history,” said Tim Bailey, the hotel’s General Manager. “We actually received this idea from our guests. Because our hotel is so close to the museum, not a day goes by that we don’t hear guests share stories about their experience at the complex and how it reminds them of their military days.”

The extended Mother’s Day brunch will be held in the hotel’s award winning restaurant, Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro. Vinifera boasts an upscale, yet relaxed atmosphere where guests can enjoy Mediterranean inspired dishes. The restaurant traditionally offers a choice of small plates, where guests can sample a variety of different tastes and textures made from fresh locally sourced ingredients, as well as a full, yet ever changing menu.

The brunch will include well over 35 buffet sections including starters such as various pastries, bagels, muffins and breakfast breads, fresh fruit, and smoked salmon. Entries include wild flounder with crab stuffing, roasted tenderloin of beef, rum raisin brioche French toast pudding and others. The meal will be rounded out with fresh baked pies, cakes and tarts. The price for adults is $55, children under the age of twelve are $25, and children three and under are free. Additionally, an unlimited Mimosa and Bloody Mary bar may be included for just a ten dollar surcharge. Reservations may be made by phone (703-234-3550) or online.

Families, both visitors and locals, can take this great opportunity to share the tradition of celebrating their mothers and be witness to the large formation of World War II-era aircraft. With the museum just minutes from the Westin Reston Heights, Washington Dulles International Airport, and the Wiehle Metrorail station, hotel guests as well as restaurant guests can take advantage of the hotel’s complimentary shuttle.
