The Shula Family of Restaurants will once again support breast cancer awareness and those affected by the disease by raising money for the Shula Fund on Mother’s Day. Participating Shula’s full-service restaurants and Shula Burger fast-casual restaurants will collect donations on Sunday, May 10, to help in the fight against breast cancer.
Customers are invited celebrate Mother’s Day at any of Shula’s participating full-service locations and enjoy a premier dining experience. At the end of their meal that day, diners will be encouraged to support the Shula Fund by donating in $5 increments, which will be added to their final bill.
Shula Burger will also help raise money to support breast cancer research as part of its “Shake it for Shula” promotion on Mother’s Day. A portion of the sales of Shula Burger shakes sold on Mother’s Day will also be donated to the Shula Fund. Shula Burger locations in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Delray Beach and Kissimmee will each participate in the event.
The Don Shula Foundation was established in Miami more than 20 years ago as a tribute to Shula’s late wife, Dorothy. In 2014, the foundation donated $1.5 million to establishing the Don Shula Breast Cancer Research Fund (The Shula Fund). The fund supports the most promising research projects and helps improve care for the more than 1,000 newly diagnosed breast cancer patients each year.
The Mother’s Day promotion is part of Shula’s commitment to support those affected by breast cancer. In addition to the $1.5 million donation, the Shula Family of restaurants raised money through in-restaurant promotions and a social media campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month last October.
“Breast cancer awareness and treatment is something that has hit close to home with our family,” said Dave Shula, National Brand Ambassador of Shula’s Steak Houses, LLLP. “Shortly after my mother lost her battle to the disease in 1991, we created the Don Shula Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the fight against breast cancer. We are proud to help raise money to support this cause as a way of honoring her memory this Mother’s Day.”
