Allied American University Names Chelsea Hansen New Provost and Chief Academic Officer

AAU Dean of General Studies and PhD Candidate, Chelsea Hansen, named new Provost and Chief Academic Officer

Allied American University (AAU), an accredited online university that offers online associate and bachelor’s degrees to students worldwide, announced the appointment of Chelsea Hansen as the university’s new Provost and Chief Academic Officer, effective May 4, 2015.

“Chelsea has a deep understanding and unique perspective of the division of Academic Affairs,” said Dr. Bill Luton, interim president and CEO of AAU. "She focuses on growing her people and helping them achieve their greatest potential, which are essential ingredients for a great provost.”

On her appointment, Hansen said, “I am extremely honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as Provost at Allied American University. I am really excited to further serve our students in this new role, working with the most talented and dedicated professionals in the industry.”

As the university’s Provost and Chief Academic Officer, Hansen will be responsible for maintaining standards of educational excellence, while further developing the university’s academic mission. She will also play a major role in AAU’s efforts to achieve regional accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), in which they are currently a candidate.

Hansen first joined Allied American University in February of 2014 as the Dean of General Studies. Since coming to AAU, Hansen has proven to be a strong leader, providing key leadership to the General Studies department’s faculty, while bringing a fresh perspective to Academic Affairs through her dedication to best practices and student success. She has provided valuable input into retention and graduation efforts, as well as assessment and institutional research processes.

Hansen previously spent five years as a professor at Upper Iowa University, Indian River State College, and Midlands Technical College while serving as an addiction therapist with a specialization in trauma and opiate dependence. Immediately before joining AAU, Hansen was a department chair at Everglades University.

Hansen completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia Wesleyan College. She earned her MA in Psychology from Northcentral University and is weeks away from completing her PhD in Psychology at Northcentral University.
