“Accounting students understand the importance of having an internship on their resumes by the time they graduate, and that’s great. What they sometimes don’t realize, though, is exactly what an internship entails. From adhering to dress codes, to what kind of work they can expect to perform, students need to begin this valuable experience with the knowledge they need to succeed,” said Jeff Phillips, CEO of Accountingfly. “That is why we are kicking off the internship season with a series of webinars by Yvonne Harris, SHPR, who has experience in recruiting at some of the nation’s top accounting firms, and Deanna Laird, Accountingfly’s National Director of University Services.”
The two-part series will offer important insights and provide timely advice for students as they embark on this initial step towards a successful accounting career. For those who are still looking to tie down an internship opportunity, the first webinar, being held on Wednesday, May 13, will provide steps that can be taken now to find an internship for the summer. On Thursday, May 28, students who have already landed an internship can learn how best to prepare for and perform during it. Topics will include creating a personal internship success plan, networking during the summer, and work/performance expectations. Webinar registration is free.
Laird noted that these topics are among the submissions she’s received from the audiences at prior webinars. “As millennials join the workforce and become more impactful, they want to understand workplace dynamics. As a go-to site for information about careers in accounting, we are in a position to hear about their concerns. It’s a win-win. We get to educate them on some of the ins-and-outs of the workplace, and firms get to hire people who understand what they can expect. It’s about managing everyone’s expectations.”
