The Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) announces the seventeenth annual ride across North Carolina will make a stop in Southern Pines this year. A partnership of the Southern Pines Business Association, Sandhills Cycling Club and the CVB will host over 1,000 cyclists on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.

The week-long trek through the beautiful scenic back roads of North Carolina starts in Waynesville on Sunday, September 27th. Cyclists will ride seven days to end in Oak Island on Saturday, October 3rd. Stops will also include Hendersonville, Shelby, Concord, Lumberton and Whiteville. Cyclists will average about 60 miles per day.

The Cycle North Carolina “Mountains to Coast” Tour is the state’s only fully-supported ride, was created in 1999. The tour was developed to promote North Carolina’s scenic beauty, visitor attractions, historic sites, fitness and healthy lifestyle. Southern Pines previously hosted a night in the year 2000.

Ken Howell, a longtime participant of Cycle NC, agrees with their philosophy of promotion. “CNC is a wonderful experience. I post it on my calendar every year. Life is good when I’m on my bicycle riding the back roads of North Carolina and experiencing the warmth and the history of all our communities that welcome us with open arms.”

As a host city, along with the CVB, Southern Pines will roll out the red carpet with events planned for both the campsite location as well as downtown. Entertainment will be provided at both venues for the cyclist and community to enjoy. Shuttles will be provided for cyclists to visit the shops and restaurants of the Southern Pines community.
