Management Recruiters International, Inc. (MRI) opened its doors in Cleveland, OH in 1965, in response to a growing, but largely unmet demand in the business world - the need for executive, managerial and professional recruitment services. Founded by the late Alan R. Schonberg, MRI answered that need, and has grown into one of the largest, franchised, executive search and recruitment organizations in the world, with approximately 600 offices in over 40 countries. With a proven business model that has survived the toughest economic times, including the Recessions of the early 1980s and 2009, MRI celebrates in 2015, 50 years of success in executive search franchising.

Since the organization’s inception, MRI has introduced several industry firsts that shaped the way recruitment is still conducted today, namely the concept of employer-paid fees and contingency search, which obligates clients to pay recruitment costs, only if their search was successfully completed.

MRI experienced early success, encouraging the organization to replicate its business model through franchising. With a solid methodology and a unique training program, the MRI network was launched. Over the next decade the network continued to grow, and MRI became a wholly owned subsidiary of Philadelphia-based CDI Corporation (NYSE:CDI). The next step in MRI’s evolution was international expansion, following the realization that the MRI model worked equally well in other countries and other cultures.

MRI has continued to refine, redesign and adapt in response to changing needs in the marketplace. In 2005, its name was changed to MRINetwork® to reflect the critical importance of the community of offices that comprise the organization to its ongoing domination of its marketplace. Today that community numbers close to 600 independently owned and operated offices in over 40 countries.

The organization will celebrate its milestone anniversary this fall in Chicago at its annual company-wide workshop. Combining entertainment with education, the gathering will pay tribute to five decades of history as well as providing keynote speakers, team-building activities and networking opportunities.

“We are in transitional times,” says McDonald. “We have a tremendous past to build on, and as we have done repeatedly over the past 50 years, we will achieve even greater success by embracing change and responding to the needs of our clients. It’s what we have always done, and what we will continue to do in the years to come.”
