“Our oil and gas and government customers need real-time and highly accurate data for effectively responding to often challenging situations,” said Andreas Hay Kaljord, Project Manager at KSAT.
NORCROSS, Ga. (PRWEB) May 14, 2015
Hexagon Geospatial is pleased to announce that Kongsberg Satellite Services AS (KSAT), a world-leading, commercial company specializing in maritime monitoring and surveillances services, is using a range of products from the Hexagon Geospatial Power Portfolio to deliver multi-mission, near-real time services to oil and gas and government customers worldwide. KSAT is a key customer of Hexagon Geospatial business partner Norconsult in the Nordic countries of Europe.
Headquartered in Norway, KSAT is known for specializing in helping pinpoint oil discharges and locating potential polluters. The organization uses data and imagery from several radar and optical satellites and employs a range of products from the Hexagon Geospatial Power Portfolio to deliver actionable insights to customers in less than 20 minutes. These often include critical information about maritime vessel detection.
“Our oil and gas and government customers need real-time and highly accurate data for effectively responding to often challenging situations,” said Andreas Hay Kaljord, Project Manager at KSAT. “The Hexagon Geospatial Power Portfolio is instrumental in allowing us to best support these government customers, who need to make rapid and critical decisions.”
KSAT analyzes the data using ERDAS IMAGINE, which plays a role in helping to identify oil slicks, as well as vessels and other offshore installations. Both the KSAT Oil Spill Detection Service and the Vessel Detection Service require the rich radar capabilities of ERDAS IMAGINE to comb areas of interest using low-resolution radar coverage. The organization also uses the ERDAS APOLLO catalogue for ingesting the data and satellite imagery after the processing. The software then enables remote customers to have direct access to the data through the KSAT Delivery Portal or through a variety of OGC web services.
“In the maritime arena, the ability to provide actionable information is vital for many government agencies, as well as companies that do business in the open oceans,” said Claudio Mingrino EMEA Executive Director Hexagon Geospatial. “We are very excited to be playing a role in supporting KSAT in its efforts to help these organizations achieve mission success.”
KSAT is a commercial Norwegian company that provides ground station and earth observation services for polar orbiting satellites. It is also a world-leading company for maritime monitoring and surveillances services using data from several radar and optical services. KSAT offers unbiased multi-mission near-real time services providing accurate information to oil and gas and government customers based on satellites to users worldwide.
