Career in Financial Services spanned over 25 years

Philip Karmin's dedication to his family and his profession was an inspiration to us all.

Philip Karmin, a well-respected executive in the Chicago financial services community and beloved husband and father died on May 11, 2015, in Highland Park, IL, surrounded by his family. Philip was the son of Kurt and Lonny Karmin and husband to Lynne Karmin. He was raised in Glencoe, IL, and attended North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, IL, of which he was a proud alumni. Philip received his bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis.

Philip grew up in the securities industry as his father, the late Kurt Karmin, was a pillar in the Chicago financial services community. He began his career over 25 years ago working on Wall Street for Drexel Burnham Lambert on their proprietary options arbitrage trading desk. In 1989, Philip left Drexel Burnham to join his father, in the Wealth Management business at Rodman and Renshaw. They continued to work together at S.G. Cowen from 1992-1998 and from 1998-2004 at Morgan Stanley.

In 2004, they joined Burnham Securities/Burnham Asset Management, where they managed individual and client retirement fund and small business portfolios. Philip managed Burnham’s Chicago-based office in Northbrook, IL and served on the firm’s Strategy Management Committee/Task Force. In January 2012, Philip and his father, Kurt, established Karmin Capital Management, LLC. It was at this point that they affiliated with Western International Securities.
