NetNumber announced today availability of a Terminating Service Domain Selection (T-SDS) solution, enabling telecom operators to support voice services for their customers who roam in both circuit switched (CS) and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) domains. With both voice solutions in parallel, identifying the Terminating Service Domain, either CS or VoLTE, becomes a challenge. While 3GPP has specified a solution for this co-existence with the introduction of IMS Centralized Services (ICS), not every vendor supports ICS. Without NetNumber’s T-SDS solution, operators face both technical challenges in existing MSCs (Mobile Services Switching Centers) and commercial issues, which complicate and delay the introduction of VoLTE services in the network.
“Over the next five years many operators will trial VoLTE from a single regional virtual service location or deploy VoLTE for users who need to roam across both LTE and 3G networks. It is essential that VoLTE users experience seamless premium call quality with no increase in latency despite the differences between VoLTE and legacy 3G voice codecs and variations in supplementary services,” noted Sue Rudd, director of Service Provider Analysis, Strategy Analytics. “NetNumber has developed Terminating Service Domain Selection (T-SDS) to enable calls to be routed directly to and from both networks without over burdening the signaling network, creating unnecessary unpaid ‘legs’ of the call or introducing latency from constant round trips to the IMS core. T-SDS deployment in a SS7/SIGTRAN-based Mobile CS domain with Diameter, MAP and SIP interoperability eliminates double signaling to reduce operator cost while supporting seamless interworking with SIP, RCS and supplementary services.”
The T-SDS solution is delivered in NetNumber TITAN, the industry’s most robust centralized signaling and routing control (CSRC) platform. The T-SDS solution uses signaling control messages to identify VoLTE-activated subscribers and route traffic to TITAN, which completes the necessary queries to determine the terminating service domain. As TITAN is a software platform, operators can easily implement T-SDS without changing the existing network or IT systems. T-SDS is an alternative to the ICS solution defined in the 3GPP standards, enabling operators to provide VoLTE services in a seamless and cost-efficient manner.
