Houston company forms MS150 riding team for the first, but not the last, time

"We are very proud of our employees for participating in such a great cause."

HOUSTON, Texas (May 4, 2015) - Scan Systems, a Houston based company in the Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) industry, participated in the BP MS150 race benefitting the National MS Society on April 18-19, 2015.

This was the first year for Scan Systems to create a riding team in the MS150 race. Their 20-member team composed of Houston location employees, their family members, and friends all successfully rode into Austin on Sunday, April 19th. The team was able to raise more than $16,000 for the National MS Society.

Day 1 of the race was cancelled due to excessive rainfall and wind that occurred throughout the week and impacted the two sites where riders planned on camping overnight. Scan Systems gathered the team, fellow employees, friends, and families at their office to cook and enjoy the day, despite the postponed race. “We were able to all be together, enjoy a meal, and make the weekend into a memorable experience,” states Matt Rutledge, General Manager/VP of Scan Systems. The next morning, they organized a 24-passenger van and U-Haul to arrive at their office in North Houston and took the team and their bikes to the starting line of Day 2. From there, the Scan Systems bikers were able to ride into Austin as a team.

“We are very proud of our employees for participating in such a great cause. Raising $16,000 our first year is such an accomplishment and we look forward to surpassing this amount next year,” Rutledge comments.
