Mr. Ham’s free presentation, “Understanding loved ones with dementia: Coping and learning how to help,” drew family members and adult children of individuals dealing with a memory disorder. The Alzheimer’s Association estimates that more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease. On the Association’s website, 10 early signs of the memory disorder are identified, including: memory loss involving recently learned information; difficulty developing and following plans that include working with numbers; and having a hard time finishing common and familiar day-to-day tasks.
