This memoir Shhhh! Sad, Shocking and Sexy exposes Annalyn’s abuses that led her to bestiality, split personality, sex addiction and decades of mental anguish.

Annalyn did everything society said to do seeking peace and happiness.

She got three advanced degrees, married a doctor and married a lawyer. She produced for TV and documentaries, wrote screenplays, lived on the right streets in the right houses, and drove the right cars.

None of this assuaged the depression and frequent suicidal thoughts from the sexual, physical and self-abuse endured as a child in an upper-middle class family on a Maryland farm.

“A frank, sometimes-disturbing debut novel that highlights the darkness that can lurk within picture-perfect families.” — Kirkus Reviews

In Shhhh! Kelly Flook opens her hidden history of childhood abuse that left her with a split personality that battled for years: Annalyn the proper one, Kelly the rebel. She shares her harrowing experiences of equating sex with love. Feeling so unloved, drove her to sexual comfort from her Pekinese, Mickey. Annalyn enters junior high school laden with secrets, sex and shame in her veins.

Addiction to sex follows. She folds under a soft touch or kiss by a friend, teacher or stranger (married or unmarried). She mixes indiscriminate sex with alcohol and tries to commit suicide several times before high school graduation. She learns her parents and other authority figures are not protecting and loving her, but judging, ridiculing or turning a blind eye.

Flook wrote Shhhh! as a healing journey. Now with Shhhh! she reaches out to the 39 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse reported at the end of the 20th Century living in the USA alone.

“The story has abuse at its center but its overarching tale of young women fighting to reconcile society’s expectations with other desires also resonates.” — Kirkus Reviews

Flook resides in Venice Beach, CA . She enjoys the ocean view from her front porch of the fourplex she owns. She is working on her second book: Mother NORML. She has been an active Buddhist for more than twenty-eight years and is now active in the spiritual ascension community — all part of her journey in finding her true self.

Shhhh! Sad, Shocking and Sexy ($15.99, ISBN: 978-1-63135-510-3, a 254-page paperback, published by Strategic Book Publishing, is available at most major online book retailers.)
