Merle has been at the forefront of a revolution that started nearly four decades ago with the founding of AREW. She has welcomed women into the commercial real estate field with open arms and has set a powerful example for women in the work force.

CREW New York, the largest organization for women in commercial real estate in New York City, is hosting two breakfast networking events for its members and New York City real estate professionals. The Leading Ladies Breakfast series will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Akerman, 666 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. At the event, CREW New York will collect school supplies and backpacks to support Operation Backpack, a program that provides school items for homeless children in New York City.

The July 14 breakfast will feature Merle Gross-Ginsburg, founder of the first real estate organization for women in New York, Association for Real Estate Women (AREW). Gross-Ginsburg formed AREW in 1975, after the Real Estate Board of New York denied her admittance into their organization. AREW was a founding organization for CREW New York, which merged with NYCREW earlier this year.

“Merle has been at the forefront of a revolution that started nearly four decades ago with the founding of AREW. She has welcomed women into the commercial real estate field with open arms and has set a powerful example for women in the work force. We look forward to hearing her thoughts on how women can continue to support one another in breaking down gender barriers and finding new opportunities in the industry,” said Jane Lyons, CREW New York's co-president and managing partner of Rhodes Associates.

CREW New York’s Charitable Fund will collect school supplies and monetary donations at all three Breakfast Series events this summer in support of the Volunteers of America's Operation Backpack program. The Charitable Fund, CREW New York’s not-for-profit has provided more than $185,000 in scholarship money to support disadvantaged women and children in the city since its inception in 1989. The foundation was established in honor of Gross-Ginsburg’s legacy. CREW New York will be providing 50 filled backpacks for children living in New York City's homeless and domestic violence shelters.

“Supporting disadvantaged women and youth is a crucial part of our organization’s mission,” said Christine Chipurnoi, CREW New York's co-president and senior vice president of Wells Fargo Insurance Services. “It is an honor and a privilege to leverage our resources and connections to improve the lives of struggling women and their families in New York. We’re very proud of what we do an encourage others to join us by attending these wonderful events and providing donations to those in need.”
