“We are so excited to start our build-out and begin the time-honored tradition of distilling spirits. We are very thankful to the City of Frederick for being so supportive of our efforts to bring distilling back to Western Maryland."
Frederick, Maryland (PRWEB) July 15, 2015
McClintock Distilling has begun renovation of the historic building at 35 South Carroll Street in downtown Frederick. The owners of McClintock Distilling plan to open the craft distillery this fall, providing hand-crafted spirits made from scratch at the Frederick location. Tours and tastings will be available to the public and the venue will operate as an event space for the community as well.
“We are so excited to start our build-out and begin the time-honored tradition of distilling spirits. Our mission from the start has been to bring innovation to the industry and to invest in the community I grew up in. We are very thankful to the City of Frederick for being so supportive of our efforts to bring distilling back to Western Maryland.” –Tyler Hegamyer, Owner, McClintock Distilling
The distillers will launch with a craft gin using Appalachian-inspired botanicals as well as a sustainably sourced white whiskey. McClintock will also be producing a bourbon and Irish-style whiskey that will be barrel-aged on site and will be available for sale in several years.
The new distillery will feature an expansive tasting room and production area. The 5,000 square foot building will also be available for booking events and receptions. Local residents are looking forward to the launch and the owners are looking forward to contributing to Frederick’s thriving small business community.
“I can’t wait to have a distillery in our city. I love drinking all the craft beer that is made here and it will be nice to have another business that represents our city and offers something fun and interesting to do on the weekends.” – Kerry Johnson, Frederick Resident
The City of Frederick amended the city code in December of 2014 to allow small craft distilleries in the downtown area, paving the way for McClintock’s new location. McClintock Distilling will join other Maryland distilleries including Lyon Distilling, Blackwater Distilling and the Baltimore Distilling Company as some of the first distilleries in the state since prohibition.
