Clearwater Compliance to host HIPAA experts for a privacy panel discussion at upcoming BootCamp.

Clearwater Compliance, LLC has announced that some of the health care industry’s leading information privacy experts will participate in a panel discussion focused on the importance of workforce training at their HIPAA Compliance Program BootCamp™ taking place in Miami during Cyber Security Awareness Month. Entitled “Improved Quality of Care & Patient Safety through Better Information Risk Management”, this BootCamp™ brings together experts from the field of information risk management, which will provide attendees with opportunities to learn, network and discuss key issues with some of the leading minds currently working within this critically important area.

Moderated by Mary Chaput, Chief Financial and Compliance Officer at Clearwater Compliance, LLC, and a recognized expert who has been published in many industry publications, the Workforce Privacy Training panel discussion forms part of an overall educational program tackling the key issues relating to information risk management within health care today.

Privacy experts participating in the panel include:

1. Jose Perdomo, VP, Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer – Nicklaus Children’s Hospital
2. Stephen Siegel, Attorney – Broad & Cassel
3. Helen Blake, Executive Director, Office of HIPAA Privacy and Security – University of Miami
4. Mercy del Rey, Chief Privacy Officer – Baptist Health South Florida

The panel discussion will also be augmented by a special keynote speech by an FBI data security specialist entitled, “Cyber Risks in Healthcare”.

This expert, interactive panel, will expose attendees of the BootCamp to real-life, practical and effective methods to train their workforce members on privacy policies and procedures as well as implementing security awareness techniques.

In addition to the expert panel discussion, this 9-hour educational event will dig deep into the HIPAA Security, Privacy and Breach Notification Rules and provide attendees with the proper information to take further steps to safeguarding the privacy and security of patient information by operationalizing and maturing their information risk management program.

“Ensuring that staff are well trained in privacy best practices is of critical importance, given the rising cyber security threats facing sensitive information, and should be a CEO’s top priority,” says David Finn, Healthcare IT Officer at Symantec. He highly recommends the BootCamp as an ideal resource for organizations to gain valuable information and resources, calling it “the most useful day you will spend if you work in this industry.”

Attendees can earn last minute continuing education credits and receive up to 10.8 CPEs by attending the event. Clearwater Compliance has chosen an ideal time and location as the BootCamp™ is being held in October, which is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. The event will take place at the Kovens Conference Center in Miami, Florida on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 7 am to 5 pm EDT.

Through this event, Clearwater Compliance has created no better way to raise awareness of the pitfalls of securing patient information and how to avoid them than by participating in this unique, intensive, learning opportunity. Given that the BootCamp™ is in beautiful Miami, Florida, attendees can enjoy the mild and sunny climate during October when most people are in the midst of transitioning into fall and cooler temperatures.
