Françoise Gilbert, a shareholder at the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, is speaking at the Symposium on Credit Reporting in Asia Pacific and Personal Data Protection, in Xi’an China. The symposium, which has been organized by the Credit Reference Center of the People’s Bank of China, will examine how the digital economy and the rise of big data have impacted credit reporting and how data protection frameworks can be enhanced so data are collected and used in a responsible manner.
Gilbert will be speaking on “The Compliance and Practice of Personal Data Protection in the U.S.,” at 3.30 p.m. Oct. 27. Her presentation will focus primarily on U.S. privacy laws, e.g., the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Fair Credit Transaction Act, which pertain to the protection of personal information in the context of credit reporting.
Other speakers and participants at the symposium will include senior executives from credit reporting agencies across the Asia Pacific Region, officials from credit reporting agencies, experts from the IFC/World Bank Group, and industry leaders from Europe and North America, as well as data protection researchers and practitioners.
