We <3 this custom Xbox Elite BlackOps3 controller
(PRWEB) November 03, 2015
With Controller Chaos' leaked custom Elite design and Microsoft's Xbox One Elite Wireless controller, many gamers were left wanting more. The $150 price tag didn't seem to deter shoppers. In fact, Microsoft couldn't keep up with the demand. Most retailers were out of stock by the third day since its release. Whether the shortage was caused by Microsoft's lack of preparation, eager consumers or perhaps just a marketing move, having the first custom Elite controller designed by Controller Chaos shared on social media may have contributed to the unexpected demand.
Controller Chaos, a company which specializes in and offers modified/custom designed Xbox, Wii and PlayStation controllers, had a small leak of the first Elite design on Imgur as well as Reddit. It was quickly removed but not before reaching over 20,000 people in less than three hours. The image later resurfaced and was shared by XboxUK.
XboxUK posted the image via Instagram and Twitter with the caption "we <3 this custom Xbox Elite BlackOps3 controller". Many followed suit, leaving positive feedback. Since then, other images of Controller Chaos' Elite design had been shared and posted on social media platforms. The demand for Xbox's Elite controller kept growing.
Microsoft's spokesperson addressed the shortage to GamesBeat, "we are working quickly to get more units of the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller in the hands of fans, and look forward to replenishing inventory in time for the holidays".
Retailers and consumers can expect the Elite controller to be restocked before the holiday season. Amazon, Walmart, Target and GameStop will be carrying the new controller by Microsoft. Custom designs for Xbox, PlayStation, and Wii controllers are available through Controller Chaos.
Ultimately whether or not Controller Chaos' leaked design may not have directly boosted Microsoft's sales, it definitely didn't hurt. The leak is currently under investigation. Preorders are being placed again for both the Elite controller and Black Ops III (due to release November 6, 2015).
