Kybella® is ideal for Santa Monica-area patients looking to eliminate their double chin without liposuction.
Santa Monica, California (PRWEB) November 04, 2015
The fact that submental fat—the stubborn stuff that creates the look of a “double chin”—can be so resistant to exercise and diet led to the FDA’s recent approval of a new injectable cosmetic: Kybella®. Santa Monica cosmetic surgeon Dr. Mark Youssef has been a clinical trainer for the makers of Kybella® for many years, and his practice is now providing these treatments as of Sept. 16, 2015.
Though Dr. Youssef is a cosmetic surgeon, he recognized that not every man and woman seeking to eliminate submental fullness would want to choose liposuction as a solution. While the surgical option is an effective one, it does require a subsequent recovery period—something that not every patient can or is willing to do. Kybella®, however, is a minimally invasive treatment that takes only about 20 minutes to administer and requires no significant down time afterward.
Kybella® contains a special form of deoxycholic acid, a version of which is found naturally in the human body, where it aids in the breaking down and absorption of dietary fat. When used to target precise pockets, such as submental fat, via injection, the acid destroys fat cells, permanently rendering them incapable of reforming or growing larger. Once freed from its cells, the fat is safely processed by the body, and natural functions remove it from the system.
This process can take several weeks, during which patients will notice their double chin beginning to reduce. Up to six treatments, injected more than a month apart each, may be necessary to produce ideal results. The average is two to four treatments.
Kybella® was approved by the U.S. FDA earlier in the year, on April 29, after more than 20 clinical studies led to the conclusion that the injectable cosmetic is safe and effective for treating submental fullness. It officially launched on June 19. The FDA approved Kybella® for use only on submental fullness, so the injectable won’t be replacing liposuction on the abdomen or in other areas anytime soon.
In addition to Kybella®, Dr. Youssef offers a variety of other non- and minimally invasive treatments at his Santa Monica practice, including BOTOX® for reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles, Thermage® for tightening skin, chemical peels and microdermabrasion for rejuvenating the skin, lip enhancements, spider vein removal, and more.
As for surgical options for the face, Dr. Mark Youssef is a face lift expert. This surgery focuses on lifting and tightening the lower half of the face, which can help to reduce the appearance of fullness, especially when combined with liposuction of the neck.
