Kevin McKelvy, Vice President of Administration, R & R Trucking, Inc., was a guest speaker at this year’s Regional National Association of Publicly Funded Truck Driving Schools (NAPFTDS) Conference held on October 29-30, 2015, at Crowder College, Neosho, Missouri.
The conference attracted member schools from Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
Part of McKelvy’s presentation focused on ways truck drivers can use their experience and leverage to earn more pay in the field of truck driving. “There are great paying truck driving jobs available today in the truckload sector,” McKelvy said. “Our qualified team drivers at R & R can earn over $120,000 per year if they have the right endorsements.”
According to Darrin Pfeifly, Director of Transport Training at Crowder College, their school is running at over capacity and staff is being added to accommodate more students coming in. “An entry level truck driver can make $50,000 per year,” said Pfeifly. “There are not that many job opportunities where an individual can receive just 4-6 weeks of training and go out and make that kind of money – truck driving you can.”
Crowder has received a VA-approved grant to assist military veterans in obtaining a CDL. The grant and waiver program give credit for a veteran’s past military driving experience. For more information about Crowder Transport Training, contact Crowder College, 800-541-2891.
R & R recently launched its own program to recruit veterans into the field of truck driving. “Part of our initial plan is to refer veterans seeking a career in truck driving to Crowder’s truck driving school,” says McKelvy. “We believe Crowder and other NAPFTDS member schools are doing an excellent job in training students to become professional drivers and R & R is committed to providing ongoing support to their truck driving training programs." read entire article
