The Maryland International Film Festival- Hagerstown is launching new initiatives, locations, and parties for their fifth year anniversary.

Executive Director, Tracie Hovey said, “We have already received more entries this year than we did all of last year and we haven’t even had our second deadline yet."

The fifth annual Maryland International Film Festival- Hagerstown launched its call for entries in September. The festival’s Executive Director, Tracie Hovey said, “We have already received more entries this year than we did all of last year and we haven’t even had our second deadline yet. We are excited that the festival continues to grow with quality films and so much filmmaker support.”

The Maryland International Film Festival-Hagerstown (MDIFF-H) is scheduled to run April 1-3 2016 and expects to screen over 80 films from around the globe. Tom Riford, MDIFF-H President said, “The festival expects to add more venues again this year and we have added more awards. We are also planning an exciting opening night pre-party to celebrate our fifth year. People won’t want to miss it!”

This year MDIFF-H is expanding its reach into Frederick County by welcoming winners from the 72 Hour Fest in Frederick and the winners of a new high school contest in Frederick that is just getting set to launch. Hovey said, “We believe in supporting the filmmaking community in as many ways as possible. We embrace additional opportunities for MDIFF-H to become a platform for these filmmakers to thrive.”

The 2015 Board Members are as follows: Tom Riford, Tracie Hovey, Heather Guessford, Mary Anne Burke, Bob Bruchey, Bev David, Joseph Marschner, Dan Poyner, and Jay Frantz. Hollywood Director Joe Carnahan is the Creative Director.

MDIFF-H is accepting films in several categories including: Feature, Documentary, Student, Short, Foreign and Animation. The submission deadlines are as follows: Regular Deadline November 27, 2015; Late Deadline January 8, 2016; and Extended Deadline February 5, 2016. The MDIFF-H mission is to be a platform for independent filmmakers to engage audiences, collaborate with other filmmakers and educate the community with the celebration of film.
