As the only dental school in northern New England, The University of New England College of Dental Medicine is uniquely positioned to prepare its students for rewarding careers in what U.S. News & World Report recently ranked the “Number One Job in America”: Dentistry.

U.S. News & World Report compiled a list of 2015’s 100 best-ranked employment options, rating each job based on factors such as salary, stress-level, employment rate, job prospects, work-life balance and future job creation. Dentistry took the top slot overall, and in the healthcare industry as a whole. The report also noted that 23,300 new dentist jobs will be created in the next seven years, illustrating the necessity to educate future experts in the field.

Through its state-of-the-art Oral Health Center, which offers hands-on experience for students and quality care for community members at affordable rates, the University of New England is consistently working to provide innovative opportunities for its students. Supervised by licensed dental faculty members, students are able to build beneficial relationships with the public, helping them form strong ties within the community that could influence them to continue practicing in underserved areas upon graduation. Not only will UNE graduates be fully poised for satisfying careers, but they will also be addressing a distinct need for dentists in the State of Maine.

“UNE is the only dental school in the area, which means we have both the opportunity and responsibility to provide as many hands-on experiences as possible for our students,” says Jon Ryder, D.D.S., dean of UNE’s College of Dental Medicine. “We feel very fortunate to be able to foster these future leaders in the field—they are not only learning to be dentists, but are learning how to diagnose diseases like oral cancer and heart disease. Their careers will be both rewarding and vital to the health of their communities.”
