Zipit Wireless today announced that the Spokane Police Department (“Spokane PD”) in Spokane, Washington, has selected its Enterprise Critical Messaging Solution™ for use in activating the department’s specialized tactical unit, which includes Emergency Response, Explosives Disposal, K9, and Crisis Negotiation teams.

Spokane PD chose to implement the Zipit solution for its patented priority-based messaging feature, which enables commanders to set a priority to each dispatched message and change the behavior of officers’ smartphones through visual and auditory cues, so messages related to critical situations immediately stand out from all other messages.

“Our officers are typically flooded with texts and emails throughout the day. Important messages can easily be missed because standard texts and emails can’t communicate the urgency of a situation,” said Jay Kernkamp, Special Patrol Officer for the Spokane Police Department. “Ninety-percent of our Zipit messages are sent using its Mayday feature, the highest priority. This way, when our officers receive a Zipit message, they immediately know it’s an emergency. We looked at other solutions and Zipit was far superior in addressing our communication needs.”

“Zipit takes pride in meeting the critical communication needs of this highly specialized unit within the Spokane Police Department and enabling them to be more effective in serving their community,” said Frank Greer, CEO of Zipit Wireless.
