PresenceLearning Surpasses One Million Live, Online Therapy Sessions
(PRWEB) December 16, 2015 -- PresenceLearning recently reached a major milestone by providing more than one million live, online therapy sessions. Serving thousands of students with special needs every day, PresenceLearning has vastly increased the number of sessions it delivers year after year since its founding in 2009 while continually expanding service offerings to schools and health care organizations.
“Administrators are increasingly choosing the flexibility and convenience of telemedicine to deliver clinical services for students,” said Clay Whitehead, Co-founder and Co-CEO of PresenceLearning. “Just two years ago, most schools were still very wary of telemedicine. But, as they’ve seen telemedicine go mainstream in health care and watched the life changing results students are achieving, more and more school leaders are coming to us to partner. There is now an understanding that the true potential of telemedicine is to supplement and complement existing programs, to plug gaps and double down on what is already working well. We’ve been floored by the response from schools and families.”
This is the fourth year in a row that PresenceLearning students have beaten national averages.
“One thing a lot of people don’t realize is how effective online assessments are. We are doing close to 1,000 each month and seeing fantastic results. Look for more to come from us on this front,” said Whitehead. These assessments help students get the services they need as quickly as possible and help districts improve their efficiency by dismissing students who have reached their goals as a result of using the services.
Online delivery of speech and occupational therapy, and behavioral and mental health services is recognized as effective by the following major organizations and is supported by dozens of published, peer-reviewed research studies:
- American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
- American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
- American Psychological Association (APA)
- American Telemedicine Association (ATA)
- Mayo Clinic
As its use continues to grow in schools and districts nationwide, online delivery of speech therapy and related services (also known as telemedicine or telehealth) is now reimbursed by Medicaid in the District of Columbia and twelve states including California, Colorado, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington state.
