Ascendian Healthcare Consulting, a national healthcare IT consultancy, has partnered with Yuma Regional Medical Center to modernize and optimize the organization’s enterprise imaging information systems and operations for advanced patient care and Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) efficiencies.

Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) is a 406-bed, not-for-profit hospital with more than 2,000 employees serving the residents of southwestern Arizona. YRMC’s medical practitioners and care professionals are dedicated to innovation across clinical operations to support and improve patient interaction and outcomes. Yuma Regional Medical Center has a deep inventory of radiology, cardiology, and other specialty imaging assets that require a seamless, integrated and comprehensive solution to track, store, and display critical patient medical images. The new enterprise imaging model will provide physicians and medical professionals’ access to the rich assortment of medical imaging data across their departments and facilities. Interoperability is fundamental to Yuma Regional Medical Center’s regional healthcare vision and the future management/distribution of medical images, as well as other clinical content for rapid, accurate and collaborative patient care.

“Our primary focus when evaluating any information technology solution is on providing exceptional care for patients,” said Fred Peet, CIO at Yuma Regional Medical Center. “We knew we needed an enterprise imaging solution that aligned with our broader strategies to meet the needs of providers and patients. As an imaging solution partner, the Ascendian team complemented our internal team. The combination of our two organizations has enabled knowledge transfer and a project management structure focused on the components and milestones necessary to achieve our enterprise imaging goals.”

The complexity and costs of storing, securing and sharing data has intensified for healthcare providers. An Enterprise Imaging Strategy supported by a Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) and emerging technology, as well as people, process and change management factors, can enhance the quality of care, patient safety and increase efficiencies within a health system’s operations. These benefits are compounded when healthcare organizations are growing through mergers and acquisitions, or participating in emerging HIE’s and ACO models.

“Yuma Regional Medical Center’s executive and clinical leaders established a vision of advanced healthcare delivery using care coordination and data analytics to measure and improve outcomes while continually evolving best practices.” said Shawn McKenzie, CEO at Ascendian Healthcare Consulting. “Marrying the enterprise EHR with a robust enterprise imaging platform will provide a comprehensive longitudinal view of the patients they serve. Ascendian is proud of our relationship with such a visionary organization.”
