Students aged 14-22 can win $1,500 in the fall Create Real Impact contest

The Create Real Impact contest has been acknowledged as one of the nation’s most successful creative messaging contests. The number of young people who have taken part is staggering.

Students across the United States can win cash prizes for their creative messages discouraging their peers from distracted and reckless driving. Submissions of artwork, videos, music or creative writing for the Create Real Impact contest must be received by November 5, 2015 for consideration at http://www.createrealimpact.com.

“The Create Real Impact contest has been acknowledged as one of the nation’s most successful creative messaging contests. The number of young people who have taken part is staggering,” said Kelly Browning, Ph.D., Executive Director, Impact Teen Drivers.

Distracted driving is the number one killer of young drivers. It involves real people and impacts real families:

  • Sydnee W. was an Ohio teen who died in a crash just shy of her 18th birthday. She was driving distracted and not wearing her seatbelt
  • Fourteen year old Hunter C. was the victim of a crash where the 17 year old driver was distracted
  • Conor L. was just 16 when he was hit and killed by a distracted, unlicensed 18 year old driver

None of the families or friends of these teens ever thought their loved one would never come home again.

Recognizing the growing problem, California Casualty partnered with law enforcement and educational groups to combat inattentive driving. In 2007, Impact Teen Drivers was founded as an education program utilizing peer-to-peer creative expression to stem the tide of distracted and reckless driving. The goal was to find proactive solutions to reduce the deadly epidemic and prevent more tragedies; the Create Real Impact contest was a result.

Entrants, ages 14-22, can find rules, information and enter their work at http://www.createrealimpact.com. Online voting for prizes from $500 to $1,500 begins November 7.
