Downtown Galena, Ill. brings Bourbon Street to the Midwest with a fun-packed Mardi Gras weekend full of music, festivities and beads. Rain, snow or shine, celebrate New Orleans-style in this frozen-in-the-1800s village Feb. 5-6.

Get the party started with a musical pub crawl along Galena’s magical Main Street Fri., Feb. 5, starting at 6 p.m. at the Green St. Tavern. Follow the tunes of the Wundoe band as they weave in and out of Galena’s lively pubs on their way to the Galena Brewing Co. End the night with a festive drink across the street at Miss Kitty’s Grape Escape.

Galena Mardi Gras Weekend continues Sat., Feb. 6, with a snow sculpting contest at 10 a.m. in Washington Park. Professional and local snow sculpting groups carve blocks of snow into works of art throughout the unique shopping district. Artists finish their sculptures just in time for the Mardi Gras Parade at 5:30 p.m., where bands, floats and beads flood Main Street.

After the parade, get to the Masquerade Ball at the Galena Brewing Co. from 8–11 p.m. Enjoy food, drinks and some old-fashioned New Orleans blues, jazz and funk from The Smiley Tillmon Band.
