“This isn’t just an ivory tower think tank or a sounding board for complaints,” Yadley said. “Serving on this committee gives me the opportunity to debate issues of public policy that really affect our economy and job creation.”

Corporate law attorney Gregory C. Yadley, from the full-service business law firm Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick, LLP, has been reappointed to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s Advisory Committee on Small and Emerging Companies.

Yadley has served on the national committee since its inception in 2011 and is one of only three members reappointed from the original committee. The 15-member committee makes recommendations to the five SEC commissioners concerning the best interests of small businesses and investors.

“This isn’t just an ivory tower think tank or a sounding board for complaints,” Yadley said. “Serving on this committee gives me the opportunity to debate issues of public policy that really affect our economy and job creation.”

Members include two other practicing attorneys, a venture capitalist, small business representatives and investors for private equity firms and public pension funds, among others.

“The appointees have different experiences and backgrounds,” Yadley said. “I focus on what the law currently allows and potential obstacles in the law.”

The SEC Advisory Committee will hold its first meeting on February 25 in Washington, D.C., and committee members will determine the group’s agenda.

“Sometimes federal agencies convene a committee to address a specific need, but with this committee, our focus is much broader: How we can make things better for small businesses and growing companies,” Yadley said. “There’s a sincere interest from regulators to hear about needed reforms and federal regulations that are fair to both enhancing capital raising and protecting investors.”
