"We’re ecstatic to launch the Code Builders model in Seattle. We're on a mission to give our students the education and hands-on experience they need to succeed as developers.
SEATTLE, WA (PRWEB) March 01, 2016
Code Builders, a new Seattle-based immersive coding school and software development consultancy, has launched a nine-month program that turns beginner coders into full-stack junior developers. Students at Code Builders spend their first six months in the classroom and their last three months in the in-house development consultancy working on real development projects for real clients.
While the typical code school or boot camp offers three months of instruction and no job placement, Code Builders believes that its approach gives entry-level developers an extended classroom education and the real-life experience that they need to become successful senior developers. With its nine-month program, the Code Builders experience is 4X longer than the average code school.
"We’re ecstatic to launch the Code Builders model in Seattle. Over the last few years we’ve seen an abundance of code schools and boot camps emerge promising to teach students how to become developers in three months. But the problem we’ve seen is that many of these entry-level developers graduate and have a difficult time finding jobs because they don’t have enough real-life experience and frankly haven’t been given the time needed to hone their skills,” states Co-Founder and Lead Instructor Bookis Worthy.
The total number of US code schools grew 175% from 2013-14, not including part-time programs, according to Course Report. In 2015, it was estimated that 16,056 students would graduate from code school programs, up 138% from the previous year, resulting is an influx of entry-level developers seeking full-time employment. With 27% of graduates placed in jobs after graduation, the vast majority of code school graduates report that it takes a few months to find a job, and even after three months, 21% of code school graduates are still unemployed, according to Course Reports survey from 2015.
Also noted in the report is evidence of the "skills gap" that exists between what schools and colleges teach and what employers actually need in the workplace. Employers report difficultly filling important positions and dissatisfaction with the skill levels. Code Builders believes that its unique approach will help close this gap by offering entry-level developers a place to apply their classroom knowledge so they have the skills that hiring managers actually need.
Classroom instruction for the first Code Builders class began in September 2015 and the students will complete the program in April 2016. Committed to a small class size, Code Builders students receive 1:1 instruction, an extended formal curriculum, ongoing support and mentorship from senior developers. In April, these students will be offered job opportunities in the in-house software development consultancy, where they’ll work on a variety of projects.
