It is all too common that there is a financial gap, and the wonderful thing about a scholarship is that it doesn’t have to be repaid. We are pleased that we can offer this investment in a student’s potential.

The Evans Law Firm, a leading Central Texas personal injury practice, declared today that for the first time, it would be awarding a legal scholarship of $1,000 in August. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and reward creative authorship.

Founder Chip Evans explains, “Being a lawyer is much more than making grand speeches in a courtroom. While oration is a vital skill, the most fundamental component of the legal profession is the written word. Communicating effectively with a wide range of individuals is key. Lawyers need to be able to convey ideas succinctly and accurately to many types of people – from those inquiring about whether they need legal help to clients, other attorneys, juries, witnesses, experts, judges, arbitrators, and more.”

Scholarships will be awarded based on originality, creativity, and the ability to clearly convey a complex message. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or authorized to work in the U.S., be starting law school in August of 2016, and have written an article that has been published in a newspaper, magazine, professional blog, or academic publication. Completed application forms must be submitted with a copy of the applicant’s law school acceptance letter and either a copy of the applicant’s previously published article or a link to the article’s online location. The subject matter does not have to be related to the law, but should endeavor to be informational.

Applications can be submitted online at the Evans Law Firm. All documents must be received by May 1, 2016. The successful candidate will be notified by June 15, 2016. The winner’s law school will receive a $1,000 check by August 1, 2016, to help defray his or her tuition costs and other expenses.

“It’s no secret that the cost of higher education is often more than students and their families can afford,” remarks Evans. “It is all too common that there is a financial gap, and the wonderful thing about a scholarship is that it doesn’t have to be repaid. We are pleased that we can offer this investment in a student’s potential. Awarding this scholarship is a first for us and an opportunity we hope to be able to repeat in the future.”
