2016 Bliss Award Winner - Best Community Spirit of the Year
Greenville, South Carolina (PRWEB) March 12, 2016
What makes one community actively engage in outreach efforts in the local community more than another? Real Estate Scorecard can’t really put a finger on the clear cut answer, but when communities do, they notice. This year, Real Estate Scorecard recognizes The Reserve at Lake Keowee's profound accomplishments in the local community and honors them with the 2016 Bliss Award for Best Community Spirit of the Year.
Maybe Janet Kowalski, a Reserve member and volunteer, provides a key. “Why do I volunteer? I think that in everyone, there's a deep-rooted desire to leave our mark, to make a difference, to touch another's life in a lasting, meaningful way. If life is kind to us, we're able to set aside time to do those things, and if we're truly blessed, we find a way that betters our own lives even as we're working to help others.”
The Reserve at Lake Keowee is one of the few South Carolina golf communities so committed to the cause, that they started their own Foundation 16 years ago. They are constantly doing something fun while raising money for the Foundation. They host events like their Artist in Residence program, golf tournaments, educational workshops and concerts in the performance hall and on the great lawn. The Reserve at Lake Keowee is a stunning 3,900 acre resort-style master planned community on Lake Keowee. Amenities include a 200 slip marina on Lake Keowee, a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course and clubhouse, a gorgeous lakefront swimming complex, tennis center, parks, trails and much more. From a bird’s eye view, it’s quick to recognize why The Reserve is one of the best places to live in South Carolina.
The warm and fuzzy volunteerism Real Estate Scorecard observed from Reserve members was shown when 16 of them read to 1st & 2nd graders every week at the local school. Almost two dozen more volunteer by mentoring students 1st - 5th grade. The Reserve has members who volunteer as local firefighters, yoga instructors catering to abused children, deliver Meals on Wheels, assist in a local animal shelter and the list goes on and on. If one saw all the things they do, one might wonder how these folks find time to play in one of the finest Lake Keowee communities. One property owner describes The Reserve as “a magical community, where beauty, peace and serenity envelop each property. Where people care about each other and share there commonalities, experiences and lives with each other. Our community is nonjudgmental and believes together, we can bring out the best in one another.”
Their volunteerism impact can be seen in measurable results. In 2015, charitable contributions primarily funded by sponsors and donors of the BMW Charity Pro-Am, the Annual Charitable Golf Classic and Auction Fundraisers totaled a record amount of $110,000 almost doubling their 2014 results. Since 2006, they have donated more than $402,000 to local Pickens County non-profit organizations. Charities include Helping Hands of Clemson, Pickens County Meals on Wheels,Pickens Senior Center/Hagood, Safe Harbor, Feed a Hungry Child, Carolina Point Young Life Camp, Country Santa, local animal shelters, Big Break Warrior Edition and more.
What do volunteers have to say about their involvement? “Each time we visit the shelter to practice yoga, the kids are so happy to see us…Our relationship with each child comes first and the yoga poses become the vehicle to share love and develop trust. As we move and breathe together, we can feel the energy shift in their little spirits and our class usually finishes with the kids climbing on our laps to share hugs.” says volunteers and Reserve members Caron Bey Knight and Tina Propper.
Reserve member John Howard says “Thanks to the help of the local community, Reserve members and contributions, the Pickens Senior Center went from almost closing its doors, to now serving over 300 members in a newly renovated 10,000 sq. foot building. The Center is run entirely by volunteers and offers a variety of services such as lunch, entertainment, educational programs, fitness classes, bingo, pool and much more.”
Folks who desire to live in a place where compassion and kindness is a common thread won’t want to miss seeing The Reserve at Lake Keowee, one of the finest South Carolina golf communities. Residents enjoy stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains across one of the prettiest lakes Real Estate Scorecard has boated on. Lake Keowee is 18,500 acres and has 300 miles of shoreline, secluded islands and waterfalls. The community is in close proximity to Clemson and is about 30 miles from downtown Greenville, a progressive city that needs a new wall to hang all of their awards such as America’s Best 2nd Town Ever by Outside Magazine.
