Life is about all of the positive and negative experiences
MELBOURNE, Australia (PRWEB) March 29, 2016
As a healthcare professional for 35 years Chris Lancashire has assisted in the care of bringing babies into the world, and assisted in the care of those leaving the world. However, upon the cancer diagnosis of Lancashire’s son, Andrew, she found how her professional life would provide the anchor for not just other families, but in her own son’s cancer journey.
In her new book, “Beyond Courage,” author Chris Lancashire seeks to raise awareness of the bone cancer, Chondroblastic Osteosarcoma, found among children, predominantly teenagers, and young adults. “Beyond Courage” began as a journal of Lancashire’s only child and son, Andrew, and his fight against Chrondroblastic Osteosarcoma. Lancashire details her son’s clinical treatments along with her and her husband’s feelings and reactions as they were guided through their son’s cancer journey.
In addition to raising awareness of the aggressive bone cancer, “Beyond Courage” offers support and insight for families who are fighting the disease, as Lancashire writes on the importance of surrounding oneself with family and friends who are really there for you.
“Life is about all of the positive and negative experiences,” said Lancashire. “They are what help us grow to better understand and learn about ourselves.”
Chris Lancashire works with RareConnect.org as a moderator on the Discussion Group for Chondroblastic Osteosarcoma. Lancashire has also created the Andrew James Lancashire Memorial Fund, an ancillary fund of The Lord Major Charitable Foundation Melbourne, Australia. The donations and proceeds of “Beyond Courage” will go towards the medical research at Sarcoma Genomics and Genetic Laboratory, at Peter MacCallum Cancer Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
“Beyond Courage” covers every step of the cancer process, from diagnosis, to everyday concerns, treatment and even loss. Lancashire’s dual perspectives as a mother and healthcare professional will assist families on the medical and emotional spectrums.
