Legislative professional Maria C. Garcia* has moved into the position of Senior Director within the Government Law & Policy Practice in the Sacramento office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP.

Garcia, who is not admitted to the practice of law, assists clients with legislative matters at the California State Capitol, including monitoring legislation, meeting with both elected officials and staff, and attending and testifying at committee hearings. She has worked for the California Legislature for almost a decade, serving members of the majority party in both the Senate and Assembly.

Drawing on her prior experiences as a Legislative Director and Principal Consultant to the Assembly Committee on Elections and Redistricting, Garcia has developed a keen ability to monitor and analyze legislation, draft amendments, negotiate compromises, and build coalitions. Chaptering an average of eight new laws per year while working at the capitol, she now connects the firm with relevant decision makers and ensures their issues and priorities are considered in the process. Her knowledge of the capitol environment serves the firm’s clients well in developing, pursuing, and executing their legislative agendas.

Active in the community, Garcia is a member of the Capitol Network, Institute of Government Advocates, Latino Capitol Association, and the United States Tennis Association (Nor Cal Chapter). She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis.
