Soft-Lite Windows recently introduced a brand-new high-performance double-pane glass option that will ensure that all Soft-Lite windows continue to qualify for the ENERGY STAR label. The new glass, “Low-E Northern Energy Star Zone” (NEZ), is available exclusively on Soft-Lite’s Barrington double-hung, two- and three-lite slider, and picture window models.

Low-E NEZ incorporates double-pane glass, argon gas and a high-performance Low-E coating on surface #3 of the glass. This is similar to Soft-Lite’s Low-E/A glass option – but with the Low-E coating moved from surface #2 to surface #3. Soft-Lite worked diligently to develop an option that would ensure Barrington windows continue to meet the requirements for ENERGY STAR certification in the Northern climate zone – without moving the Low-E coating to surface #4, like many others in the industry have been forced to do.

“We dedicated a great deal of time and effort to developing Low-E NEZ, because we absolutely wanted to avoid using a surface #4 Low-E, to ensure we continue offering consumers the best ENERGY STAR certified double-pane windows possible,” said Tyson Schwartz, Soft-Lite’s Chief Sales & Marketing Officer. “When used on the #4 glass surface in a double-pane insulating glass unit, the Low-E coating can result in a higher probability of interior glass condensation in the winter, can scratch very easily – and can significantly raise the cost of ENERGY STAR certified products to homeowners. Our hard work paid off, and we are now excited to launch Low-E NEZ on our Barrington window line.”

Soft-Lite is a vinyl replacement window and door manufacturer headquartered in Streetsboro, Ohio. The company was recently named National ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for the third consecutive year and an ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence winner for 2016. The company is also a multiple Crystal Achievement Award winner and is a recipient of the Friedman Corporation Customer Appreciation Award, the Window & Door Top 100 Manufacturers recognition, and the Door and Window “Companies to Watch” recognition.
