Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) April 14, 2016
CME Outfitters (CMEO), a leading accredited provider in continuing medical education, announces the availability of an on demand activity: Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants: The Front-Line in the Diagnosis and Clinical Management of Bipolar Disorder.
Studies suggest that patients with bipolar disorder are often misdiagnosed initially, and most often with major depressive disorder. Treatment of these patients may be ineffective or possibly worsen outcomes by precipitating symptoms of mania or hypomania. Reasons may include incomplete history, lack of patient reporting an accurate history, or the presence of psychiatric comorbidity, such as anxiety or substance use disorders.
Education to front-line nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in both psychiatric and primary care settings can help to sharpen diagnostic skills and improve treatment choices, as well as the therapeutic relationship with bipolar patients and their families. Nurse practitioners (NP’s) and physician assistants (PA’s) make a substantial contribution in the recognition and care of patients with bipolar disorder including assessment of psychiatric and medical comorbidities. Additionally, by their training and experience, NP’s and PA’s are well suited to facilitate optimal patient care in collaboration with other healthcare team members.
Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care professionals treating patients with bipolar disorder are encouraged to participate. The on demand activity allows learners to participate at their convenience and learn more about diagnosis, treatments, management of metabolic issues and lifestyle changes for those with bipolar disorder that will improve patients’ lives.
