Bill Howe started AM/PM Sewer and Drains in 1980 with a simple mission of offering professional San Diego plumbers at affordable rates and ensuring they maintain the highest level of training and customer service. Starting with one truck, he grew the company for over 35 years and began offering additional services including restoration and flood remediation and heating and air conditioning in San Diego. The Bill Howe Family of Companies’ success relied on that simple mission and also by creating happy healthy employees, raising the bar on their quality services in the community and giving back through philanthropic efforts and volunteerism.

The Bill Howe Family of Companies’ is dedicated to the advancement and growth of its employees across divisions. They pay for 100 percent of tuition for the four-year Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors’ Journeyman Program, and the heating & air conditioning specialists to attend the two-year certificate program and advanced training throughout the year. They ensure employees have all the tools and resources necessary to excel in their careers to adhere to their mission of caring for employees, and in turn those trained specialists care for customers and the community.

Part of their success in retaining quality employees is through their ample recognition programs. Each month, outstanding employees are honored in four different award categories: Above & Beyond, for employees who take that extra step to help customers, the company and their colleagues, Excellence, presented to the employee (or employees) who demonstrates quality craftsmanship, Leading by Example, for the employee who represents the high standards of Bill Howe, and Customer Service, for the employee who delivers exceptional customer Care.

At the April company meeting, the following employees were presented with the exemplary awards: Michael Plata for Above & Beyond (A&B), Tris Coffin for Customer Service (CS), Daniel Cox for Excellence (E), and Marco Cibrian for Leading by Example (LBE).

Each month, the executive team meets to go over nominations from management, the Plumbing Team Leaders, and office staff. “We have over 150 employees and each one of them meet the high standards and award criteria,” said Tina Howe Vice President of Bill Howe Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning in San Diego. “It makes the decision process more challenging, and exciting, for us and each month the bar gets set higher.”
