Today, Aya Healthcare, the premier travel nurse staffing company in the nation, announced a partnership with the Travis Manion Foundation (TMF), an organization that assists and supports our nation's veterans and the families of fallen heroes. On September 30, 2014, TMF supporter Sam "Samalama" Leonard set to walk across the country from Largo, Fla. to California at the age of 73. Upon entering Houston, TX Sam was forced to stop unexpectedly and soon learned he was suffering from Stage IV stomach cancer. Sadly, after completing 1,000 miles of his journey, Sam passed away but not before he and his family reached out to TMF about the possibility of someone else completing their hero's goal.

That's where Aya Healthcare comes in: Albie Masland, fiancé of Aya Healthcare Recruiter Jen Slocum, is the Veteran Services Manager: West Coast for the Travis Manion Foundation and is the perfect candidate to continue this mission and carry on Sam's legacy. Masland and his two comrades and fellow TMF Ambassadors, Nick Biase (USMC Veteran) and Matt Peace (USN Veteran), will be completing the last 1,500 miles of Sam's journey – in just 30 days – to raise money for TMF on Sam's behalf.

In addition, Aya Healthcare employees will be running the final few miles with Albie, Nick and Matt as their tenacious journey comes to a close. To further support the cause, Aya Healthcare is donating $100 for every employee that runs with the three men for the last few miles of their journey All participants will be crossing the finish line on April 29 at the USS Midway on the San Diego Bay at approximately 8:30 a.m.

"We at Aya are humbled and honored to be a part of this endeavor and fully support the mission of Albie, Nick and Matt finishing Samalama's race in support of The Travis Manion Foundation," said Amber Zeeb, Director of Operations at Aya Healthcare. "It's an incredible journey that shows unparalleled bravery and tenacity, and we're proud to know these men personally."
