I like to provide my patients an evidence-based approach to weight loss, says Dr. Hafford. When tackling obesity, it’s not ‘one size fits all.’
Irving, Texas (PRWEB) May 16, 2016
Medical & Surgical Clinic of Irving is pleased to announce that Melanie Hafford, MD, FACS has joined the practice. Dr. Hafford specializes in bariatric and minimally invasive general surgery, including laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and anti-reflux operations. She will be working as the clinic’s Bariatric Surgeon, as well as teaming up with R. Bernard Rochon, MD in General Surgery. Medical & Surgical Clinic of Irving’s team of collaborative, synergistic weight loss experts provides a comprehensive program designed to help patients shed excess pounds and maintain a healthy weight. Dr. Hafford joins board-certified physician Dr. Allan Furman and Ideal Protein manager and coach Beth Duke to help patients lose and maintain a healthy weight through customized treatment strategies, individual to each patient.
Dr. Hafford attended Emory University for her undergraduate studies and went on to complete medical school at Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine. She moved to Texas for her General Surgery Residency at University of Texas Southwestern, along with a fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Methodist Hospital in Houston. During her time at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, she served as Assistant Professor of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Interim Director of UT Southwestern Bariatric Program, and Assistant Director of Advanced Laparoscopy/Bariatric Fellowship Program.
Over the years, Dr. Hafford has received awards and recognition, including the Karl Storz IRCAD Fellow Award. This prestigious annual national award allowed her to travel to France to train in advanced endoscopic techniques. She has given presentations around the United States and has collaborated with several physicians on medical publications. Dr. Hafford is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons, and American Medical Association.
As an accomplished bariatric surgeon, Dr. Hafford offers a free, regularly scheduled Bariatric Surgery information seminar where attendees can learn more about weight loss surgery, get questions answered, and find out about proper nutrition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Nearly 35% of all American adults are now considered obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Bariatric surgery can help achieve weight loss goals and help patients live longer. Bariatric surgery has shown to keep weight off and prevent the development of obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and certain types of cancer.
“I like to provide my patients an evidence-based approach to weight loss,” says Dr. Hafford. “When tackling obesity, it’s not ‘one size fits all.’ Bariatric surgery is a tool to help patients lose weight, but to be successful, we have to also address the medical aspects and lifestyle factors that have an important role in obesity as well. I want to ensure that my patients are given the best chance for long-term weight loss.”
Dr. Hafford is now accepting new patients at the Medical & Surgical Clinic of Irving office located in the Professional Building at Las Colinas Medical Center. Her office address is 6750 North MacArthur Boulevard, Suite 250, Irving, Texas. To schedule an appointment, call (972) 253-4270.
