FEI Behavioral Health, a social enterprise with a 35-year history and a leader in workforce resilience from crisis management to EAP, will present among public child welfare leaders at the upcoming National Association of Public Child Welfare Administrators (NAPCWA) 2016 Symposium. The meeting will take place within the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA) National Health & Human Services 2016 Summit in Arlington, Va. running May 22-25, 2016.

FEI’s Senior Director Terri Howard will present on “Increasing Safety in Child Welfare Organizations” as part of an open, interactive dialogue with NAPCWA leaders on May 22, 11:45 a.m. EST. Howard will be joined by Julie Krow, deputy director of Community Partnerships for the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) and Cindy Wilcott, deputy commissioner for the Division of Family Services for the Vermont Department of Children & Families, for a strategic conversation on increasing organizational and worker safety.

In light of the Lara Sobel and San Bernardino County tragedies, the session will discuss how child welfare directors and organizational leaders can build a strategic framework to keep their organizations and workers safe. Howard will share guidance on how agencies can evaluate and assess their current crisis management practices and standards. Howard also will discuss what policies should be put in place to protect workers who may be subject to a violent incident in the community and what agency leaders can do to respond in the aftermath of an event.

Howard is responsible for working with FEI corporate clients to ensure they are prepared for, can respond to and recover from a crisis incident. She also coordinates the people support and psychological first aid services for those impacted by crises, and she is responsible for developing drills and exercises aimed at testing current plans and procedures. Over the years, Howard has contributed to several international standards and guidelines on crisis management and workplace violence prevention, including ASIS, a global community of more than 38,000 security practitioners, and the FBI.
