SAE International announces that Roger Nielsen, Chief Operating Officer for Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) will be the Keynote Speaker at the SAE 2016 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress (COMVEC) Industry Keynote and Awards Luncheon on Thursday, October 6.
Mr. Nielsen is no stranger to SAE COMVEC. He has appeared on previous executive panels for the event, as well as participated in mentoring initiatives for young professionals attending COMVEC. His most recent appearance was at COMVEC 2014 where he anchored a high level talented group of industry leaders for the Blue Ribbon Panel – Engineers as Leaders.
Named as Chief Operating Officer in 2001, Mr. Nielsen is responsible for the entire DTNA manufacturing network, as well as all levels of operations in quality, supplier management, logistics, and customer application engineering. In addition, he oversees Thomas Built Buses, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation and DTNA’s continuous improvement programs.
In 1986, Mr. Nielsen joined DTNA (then Freightliner Corporation) as an Industrial Engineer. In the early years of his career at Daimler, he served as Industrial Engineering Manager and then moved into operations as Plant Manager of the Gastonia North Carolina Parts Manufacturing Plant before becoming General Manager of Materials and Manufacturing Operations. In 1998, Mr. Nielsen transferred to Daimler-Germany, where he served as Director of Production Network Planning and Technical Clearing, within Daimler’s Commercial Vehicles Division. In January 2001, Mr. Nielsen was promoted to President of Freightliner Specialty Vehicles Group, where he was responsible for American LaFrance, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation, Orion Bus and Thomas Built Buses units.
Mr. Nielsen earned his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Oregon State University and is a registered professional engineer.
SAE 2016 COMVEC will be held Oct. 4-6 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. Daimler will provide Executive Leadership for the event.
The three-day event will feature a theme of “Connectivity” and will showcase pilot programs for a potential new event format to be launched in 2017. These pilots include two symposia – one on “Autonomous Commercial Vehicles, Promises and Challenges” and the other on “Meeting the Challenges of Phase 2 GHG: Implications and Effects.”
COMVEC 2016 will also feature Executive Panel Discussions with four different moderated groups covering the topics of Telematics, Commercial Vehicles and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), Connectivity from the Customer Perspective, and the connected future of mobility.
