"I look forward to working with the Board to help consumers and explore the various data sets that are true indicators of excellence which lead to effective treatment and efficient use of resources.”

Dr. Michael Mozzoni, CEO of Mozzoni Associates Applied Neurobehavioral Services, recently joined the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (BHCOE.org) as an advisory board member. The California-based organization's mission is to identify and recognize quality providers of Applied Behavior Analytic (ABA) services to individuals with autism and related disabilities, many of whom now qualify for services through their health plans.

In addition to authoring books on Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Employee Turnover, Behavior Management, Skill Acquisition, and Environmental Hardening, Dr. Mozzoni also serves as a member of the editorial boards of Behavioral Interventions, Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (ad hoc), and Brain Injury (ad hoc). He served as an adjunct professor at both the Chicago School for Professional Psychology in the ABA Department and at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the Department of Psychology. For the Timber Ridge Group in Little Rock, AR, Dr. Mozzoni acted as the Director of Research.

“Dr. Mozzoni is a valuable addition to our organization, and we are excited to welcome him to the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence’s Community Advisory Board,” praised Sara Gershfeld, Founder of the BHCOE. “We believe his strong experience and vast knowledge will be extremely beneficial as the BHCOE continues to grow and measure quality standards across the United States. I am confident that Dr. Mozzoni is going to make an important and positive impact on our organization.”

Honored to join the BHCOE, Dr. Mozzoni explained, “I accepted the invitation because there is exciting work to be done. Helping to establish institutional standards of excellence for our field is exciting and daunting. Exciting to help develop reasonable applied matrices to measure indicators of excellence. Daunting to determine what is and what is not a true measure of excellence to the program, client, funder and family.

“We as a field do not have standardized outcome measurement systems,” Dr. Mozzoni continued. “Our work has always and will always be consumer focused. We must also step back to view the bigger public health picture as to the efficacy of our methods and determine the evidence for matching interventions with specific population profiles. I look forward to working with the Board to help consumers and explore the various data sets that are true indicators of excellence which lead to effective treatment and efficient use of resources.”

With a Ph.D. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Florida State University and an MA in Experimental Psychology from Harvard University, Dr. Mozzoni is a reviewer for the NIH Center for Scientific Review panel and is a member of the National Advisory Board for the Sarah Jane Brain Project and the Behavior Analysis Certification Board examination committee content expert.

As a member of the BHCOE Advisory Board, Dr. Mozzoni will help provide strategic input on the ongoing development of BHCOE’s quality standards.
