Brings track record of building scalable organizations to support rapid growth for leader in contextual email technology

Movable Ink has already achieved tremendous success as an innovator and market leader in contextual email. I look forward to playing a strategic role in the continued growth of this exceptional team and technology.

Movable Ink, the global leader in contextual email technology, today announced that Thilo Semmelbauer has joined its board of directors.

Semmelbauer has over 25 years of experience with market-disrupting technology ventures, most recently as President and COO of Shutterstock, a global marketplace for licensing creative assets to businesses worldwide. Under his leadership, Shutterstock revenues grew from $60 million to more than $300 million, and the business expanded into new areas, including video, music, and premium imagery. As President, he helped lead Shutterstock through one of NYC’s most successful tech IPOs in 2012, and the company subsequently delivered eight consecutive beat-and-raise quarters as a public company.

“It’s truly a privilege to have Thilo join our Board of Directors during this time of pivotal growth,” said Vivek Sharma, CEO of Movable Ink. “The value that his long history of tech innovation and experience scaling successful companies will provide is immeasurable.”

Prior to Shutterstock, Semmelbauer co-founded and was President and COO of WeightWatchers.com, which became the global leader in online weight loss and was acquired in 2005 by Weight Watchers International. He then served as COO of the combined companies, where he oversaw revenue growth from $1.2 billion to $1.6 billion through 2008. Before that, Semmelbauer worked for the Boston Consulting Group where he focused on Consumer and Technology strategy, including projects in medical imaging, digital printing, and online retail. While at BCG, he helped launch Sotheby’s online auction business.

He holds a dual master’s degree from MIT, in Management and Electrical Engineering, as well as a BA in Engineering and Computer Science from Dartmouth College. He also serves on the Board of Action Against Hunger, a global humanitarian organization committed to ending world hunger.

“Movable Ink has already achieved tremendous success as an innovator and market leader in contextual email, and has a solid vision for the future,” said Semmelbauer. “I look forward to playing a strategic role in the continued growth of this exceptional team and technology.”
