This is our fourth annual survey and it’s interesting to note how the priorities of SharePoint and Office 365 organizations change.
McLean, VA, US and Stevenage, UK (PRWEB UK) 22 September 2016
Concept Searching, the global leader in multi-term metadata generation, auto-classification, and taxonomy management software, and developer of the Smart Content Framework™, is pleased to announce the publication of its fourth annual SharePoint and Office 365 survey results white paper, 2016 SharePoint and Office 365 State of the Market Survey.
The 2016 SharePoint and Office 365 State of the Market Survey was conducted from March to June 2016. 413 unique surveys were completed by organizations that currently have one or more versions of SharePoint in use or are using Office 365 in a hybrid or cloud environment.
The survey was undertaken to determine the current SharePoint infrastructure, application priorities, the use of metadata, and the use of search. An additional objective was to determine the current or projected use of Office 365 and SharePoint Online.
Since its inception, the survey has become more detailed, in order to determine organizations’ application priorities and infrastructure, and gain insight into what are regarded as key issues. Highlights from this year’s survey include:
- Organizations are using, or moving to, Exchange Online and OneDrive for Business, but some still fear the security issues when placing knowledge assets and confidential information in the cloud.
- The dichotomy of the application priorities chosen by survey respondents illustrates that many organizations are in a state of uncertainty, such as their reaction to hybrid search as a nice-to-have feature, but not something they will be using to address their priority of improving search.
- Despite media hype, text analytics and social business applications are at the bottom of the priority list, and collaboration is this year’s must have. Organizations are not very adventurous, and appear content to leave critical business applications, such as records management, enterprise metadata management, eDiscovery, and security, to be managed in the on-premises environment.
“This year’s survey was broader in scope compared with those conducted in previous years’. This is our fourth annual survey and it’s interesting to note how the priorities of SharePoint and Office 365 organizations change. The cloud, and specifically Office 365, is now more widely accepted and that change is reflected in the responses this year,” said Martin Garland, President of Concept Searching. “We conduct the annual survey to more fully understand what these organizations are facing in terms of challenges, as well as to gain insight into the advantages of SharePoint and Office 365 environments. This helps us to focus on the delivery of technology enhancements and features that address challenges that need to be met. Drawing on the survey findings has enabled us to become more aware of, and responsive to, the needs of our clients and prospects, year on year,” he concluded.
The survey results white paper is available via Concept Searching’s website, and the Concept Searching team will be at the Microsoft Ignite event in Atlanta from 26th-30th September, at booth 2158, to discuss these latest findings in relation to market and technology developments.
