“Captain Planet & The Planeteers” Reunite For The First Time At New York Comic Con, October 6TH
(PRWEB) October 05, 2016 -- The world’s first eco-superheroes “Captain Planet & The Planeteers” are reuniting for the first time at New York Comic Con and streaming worldwide on NYCC’s official Twitch, Thursday October 6th at 12:15pm (EST). Executive Producers Barbara Pyle & Nick Boxer will be joined by stars Ed Asner, David Coburn and Joey Dedio, Casting & Voice Director Marsha Goodman and the iconic Native American leader and environmental activist Oren Lyons.
One of the most globally loved animated series ever, Captain Planet features stars such as Asner, Whoopi Goldberg & Levar Burton - since premiering in September 1990 it has been syndicated in over 220 markets throughout the United States and in over 100 countries worldwide. The series enjoyed both popular success and critical acclaim, ranking No. 1 in Nielsen ratings for five consecutive years.
The series broke ground for a cartoon, dealing with social and environmental issues including racism, climate change, poaching & AIDS. An entire generation of real-life Planeteers have been empowered by Captain Planet’s message and are actively working towards a better world; from lawyers to lifeguards, councilors to clerks, the UN to the local bar, Planeteers are everywhere!
“Captain Planet was so far ahead of its time, but the Planeteers heard the message and are living it! They are the reason I have hope for the future.” says series co-creator Pyle, who launched the Planeteer Movement in 2010 which connects Planeteers in real life all over the world.
Ed Asner, who played the piggish polluter Hoggish Greedly, relished the chance to play a baddie for a good cause: “I am so proud that the Planeteer generation learned to abandon our wastefulness and made it second nature to conserve instead of destroy like Hoggish.”
More than half-a-million Planeteers globally follow Captain Planet online, with a Facebook page that millions of people every year who still hold Captain Planet & The Planeteers as role models in their lives to this day. The actions and impact of the Planeteers are living proof that The Power Is Yours!
All Planeteers are invited to join Barbara Pyle at her New York gallery, Carmine Galleries, on Friday October 7th from 7-10pm. She will be auctioning her personal collection of memorabilia and artwork from the series, with the proceeds to benefit the Barbara Pyle Foundation’s Planeteer projects around the world.
