24-Hour Online Giving Day Aims to Raise Record Funds and Support 1,000 Nonprofits in East Bay, Silicon Valley and San Francisco Regions.

“We are thrilled once again to host this important day to spark the generosity of our region and support the vital work that nonprofit organizations provide for our communities.” James W. Head, CEO, East Bay Community Foundation

East Bay Gives 2017, a 24-hour online giving day that supports the important work of the region’s nonprofits, will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2017, the East Bay Community Foundation announced today. For the 4th annual day of giving, East Bay Gives aims to mobilize more than 15,000 people to give $5 million to support 1,000 nonprofits in East Bay, Silicon Valley and San Francisco.

“We are thrilled once again to host this important day to spark the generosity of our region and support the vital work that nonprofit organizations provide for our communities,” said James W. Head, CEO, East Bay Community Foundation (http://www.ebcf.org), which organizes the online event. “In 2017, we are aiming to make this day of giving bigger than ever, inspiring even more people to better serve our communities."

In 2016, the online giving blitz successfully rallied 1,200 donors to raise more than $1 million for the nonprofits that make the East Bay region a special place to live, work and thrive. Despite the technical difficulties with the Kimbia platform, a problem experienced by giving days nationwide, East Bay Gives 2016 exceeded goals in every area. The number of participating nonprofits grew by 38 percent since 2015, and East Bay Gives doubled the total number of donors and increased total donations by more than 55 percent.

“Through this day of giving,” said Head, “we increase access for everyone in our region to live in safe and healthy environments, to have opportunities they need to succeed and thrive, and to enjoy not only basic necessities but also extras like abundant natural resources and cultural offerings.”

East Bay Gives 2017 will be hosted on a platform designed by CiviCore, a developer with 16 years of experience managing high-volume giving day events. Their Giving Platform, built with redundancy and fail-over protections that increase reliability, has been used to raise $200 million over eight years for nonprofits nationwide.

This year, nonprofit organizations in the East Bay, Silicon Valley and San Francisco regions will benefit from this day of giving, including nonprofits focusing on arts and culture, education, environment, community improvement, health and human services, and youth development. Since 2014, East Bay Gives has given people a chance to make a tremendous philanthropic impact in their communities, raising $1,850,000 for 1,000 nonprofits.
