Understanding how technology, regulations and legislation affect the design of light and heavy duty vehicles in terms of safety, environment, and energy conservation is essential to vehicle development. The forum provides opportunities for technical authorities from government, industry, and academia who are leading regulations, pending legislation, and the advanced testing and technology to address these issues influencing future decision making within the industry. This dictates dissimilar and typically less technical presentations than other SAE conferences.

The SAE 2017 Government Industry Meeting’s technical program features 26 sessions on a range of topics including cyber security and privacy, electric drive infrastructure, light duty greenhouse gas standards, vehicle safety ratings, crashworthiness, biomechanics, advanced automatic collision notification, connect vehicles, liquid fuels, and much more. The program also includes a keynote address on Wednesday morning from Christopher Grundler of the US Environmental Protection Agency and another on Friday morning from Nathaniel Beuse, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, the plenary session will be held on Thursday with more details to come.

Attendees will have the opportunity to technical authorities who are leading regulations, pending legislation, and the advanced testing and technology to address issues. This will provide a better understanding of new legislation and regulations on emissions control, safety and energy conservation issues which will help to ensure readiness to meet regulatory pressures and market demands. The symposium also provides an opportunity to develop professional relationships with companies facing the similar challenges and to compare strategies and successes for dealing with regulations.

Additionally, as part of registration for the Government/Industry Meeting, attendees receive complimentary access to the Washington Auto Show and the exclusive Thursday night preview.
