“Yoga through Christ: Via the Eight Limbs of Yoga”: a guide to oneness with go through the physical practice of yoga. “Yoga through Christ: Via the Eight Limbs of Yoga” is the creation of published author Sally Bassett, PhD, an adjunct professor at Butler University and Christian Theological Seminary and president and founder of Peace through Yoga Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to make an impact on the lives of others through transformational yoga and service.
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Dr. Sally Bassett‘s new book will enable readers to develop a deeper relationship with God. Most Westerners initially come to the mat because of the physical practice and all the benefits that yoga offer for strengthening the body and calming the mind. The actual point of yoga is to unite oneself with God. Yoga is not a religion, but a science or spiritual discipline that can provide helpful tools to strengthen one’s faith.
The Eight Limbs of Yoga provides a path to oneness with God. The first two limbs concentrate on external and internal values. Next come the postures and a slow flow to prepare the body physically to sit in prayer and meditation for periods of time. Breath work is incorporated after the physical practice in order to calm the mind even further for meditation. It is then that the individual begins withdrawing from the senses, going inward to focus on Christ and pray, then eventually meditating and being one with God.
