Silicon Beach Film Festival announces, red carpet at the Cinemark 18XD at the Howard Hughes Promenade for a Filmmaker's’ Paradise a week-long film festival on the west-side, Silicon Beach. The second annual Silicon Beach Film Festival, in conjunction with the Playa Vista Film Festival, opens on April 22-28, taking place in the middle of the home of LA’s tech and startup community. In this week-long festival, films will be shown back to back over 12 hours each day.
Silicon Beach is home to tech giants like Google, YouTube, Snapchat, and is home to large film studios in the area. The Film Festival is the first to use a Augmented Reality Celebrity Interaction app, Starlenz. The revolutionary mobile app connects fans with celebrities and influential people via Augmented Reality. Providing an interactive and intimate experience right from your iPhone, the company seeks to connect fans with actors; film directors throughout the event. SBFF, dubbed the SXSW for LA’s digital, tech and film scene, includes starlenz for the first time.
According to Festival Programmer Peter Greene, “There should be something for everyone.” The Silicon Beach Film Festival & Playa Vista Film Festival both serve as a gathering place for filmmakers, artists, innovators, and the global creative community. Additionally, they provide a venue for independent films international and local to gain exposure.
The Silicon Beach Film Festival brings together technology and filmmakers like no other festival with an interactive and real experience,” says Jon Gursha Silicon Beach Film Festival Director.
The technology superimposes virtual celebrities into the user’s view of the real world via the starlenz iPhone app (no hardware, no goggles) – a truly cutting-edge AR innovation., say's Sandie West SBFF’s producer. The fans will also have the ability to activate additional exclusive content at select locations or by pointing their phone at certain images.
With an impressive list of Celebrities already onboard, Starlenz will feature names at SBFF such as:
Oscar winning actors, J.K. Simmons and Margaret O’Brien
Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe of Germany
- Take photos and selfies with celebrities right from your mobile device (Virtual)
- Interact with celebrities and get the inside story on exclusive content straight from the celebrities (Augmented Reality (AR))
- Share your experiences with celebrities to social platforms (Virtual/AR)
The festival is managed and run by the same organization behind the Culver City Film Festival, The Marina Del Rey Film Festival and Playa Vista Film Festivals. We are proud that we could put together a festival to represent such a vibrant area and have a great team in place with Jon Gursha as Festival Director, Sandie West as Producer, and Peter Greene as Festival Programmer.
Submissions are now open and ticket sales will start at the beginning of April.
